Draft. This is template text. It has not yet been reviewed by a South African attorney and should not be relied on before launch.
Ticketlounge ("we", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal information responsibly, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Information we collect
From ticket buyers, we collect:
- your name, email address and mobile number; and
- order details, such as the event, ticket type, quantity and amount paid.
We do not collect or store your full card number. That is handled directly by our payment gateways (see "Payment security" below).
From organisers, we collect:
- contact details, such as name, email address and mobile number;
- business details for their organiser profile; and
- South African bank account details, used to pay out ticket sales.
We also automatically collect limited technical information, such as browser type and pages visited, needed to operate the website securely.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- process ticket orders and deliver e-tickets by email and SMS;
- let organisers manage their events, view sales and receive payouts;
- communicate with you about your order, an event, or your account;
- provide customer support;
- detect and prevent fraud and misuse of the platform;
- comply with our legal, tax and accounting obligations; and
- improve Ticketlounge's features and reliability.
3. Our legal basis for processing
We process personal information where it is necessary to perform our contract with you (for example, to sell you a ticket or pay out an organiser), where we have a legitimate business interest (for example, preventing fraud), where required by law (for example, keeping tax records), or with your consent (for example, direct marketing).
4. Sharing your information
We share personal information only where necessary, including with:
- the organiser of an event you buy a ticket for, who receives your name and contact details so they can admit you at the door and contact you about the event;
- our payment gateway, Yoco, which processes your payment;
- email and SMS providers, which deliver your tickets and notifications;
- hosting and infrastructure providers, which store and run the platform; and
- a regulator, law enforcement or other party where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Ticketlounge, our users or the public.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Payment security
All card payments are processed directly by our payment gateway, Yoco. Ticketlounge never sees or stores your full card number.
6. Security safeguards
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures (such as encryption in transit, access controls and secure hosting) to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. No system is completely secure, and we continually work to improve our safeguards.
7. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, including any period required to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
8. Your rights under POPIA
Subject to the requirements of POPIA, you have the right to:
- ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, and to access it;
- ask us to correct or update inaccurate or outdated information;
- ask us to delete or destroy personal information we no longer have a lawful basis to hold;
- object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances; and
- object to the use of your information for direct marketing at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in "Information Officer" below.
9. Direct marketing
We will only send you direct marketing, such as event recommendations or newsletters, if you have opted in. You can withdraw your consent and opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us directly.
10. Cookies
Ticketlounge uses essential session cookies needed to operate the website, for example to keep you logged in and to remember items during checkout. We do not use these cookies for third-party advertising or tracking.
11. International data transfers
Some of our service providers, such as hosting or email and SMS delivery, may process personal information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.
12. Information Officer
Our Information Officer can be contacted at support@ticketlounge.co.za for any questions, concerns or requests relating to this policy or your personal information.
13. Complaints
If you believe we have not handled your personal information properly, you can contact our Information Officer, or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page.
